From a critical point of view, we seek to position, before different social and population sectors, the problems and risks related to false solutions,

deforestation, the green economy, as well as the public policies associated with these issues. We encourage the implementation of real and legitimate solutions to the climate and environmental crisis in the context of the global warming crisis.

FORESTS AND BIODIVERSITY

The Forest and Biodiversity Area was created at the beginning of the 2000s, although the associated topics were present in previous years and were promoted by the organization without that there was a specific area. Precisely after Censat Agua Viva carried out the IV Latin American Conference of Páramos and High Andean Forests, people joined the team to form the area, while participating in the National Youth Environmental Network, Red JUAN, and in Colombia they were debating and resisting the impacts of glyphosate fumigations, within the framework of Plan Colombia.

Among the concerns and priorities addressed by the Area are the environmental conflicts caused by monoculture tree plantations, which have been addressed together with indigenous peoples, Afro-descendants and the peasantry of the southwest of the country, and were the emphasis of the first years of the project. more systematic work. Likewise, we have taken on in depth the subject of the The company has been involved in important national and international campaigns on agrofuels, when they began to expand and increase their harmful effects in different territories.

Currently, the Area’s team is made up of three professionals with diverse backgrounds, from Forestry Sciences and the study of equatorial forests, to Social Sciences, with experience working in the territory with local communities and indigenous peoples, Afro-descendants and other organizations or collectives with similar priorities, both in Colombia and in other countries. that make up the Amazon. We also have specific support, but within the framework of the of medium and long term strategies, people with experience in complementary areas such as Law, Economics and Forestry Sciences. At the same time, it is important to relate with and work with The project is articulated with other organizations and networks at the international level, which facilitates a broader, more comprehensive and anticipated vision on several occasions.

In previous years, work was carried out in the southwestern, south Pacific and Santander regions, while it is currently maintained in the latter department, but with a greater focus on the Colombian Amazon.

Among the work strategies, emphasis is also placed on popular environmental education, on which we place a particular emphasis in order to propose different languages for the approach of environmental conflicts and their causes, as well as thelitate the understanding of issues, whose promoters resort to confusing and misleading forms and contents, such as in the case of the green economy and its expressions such as carbon markets.

In addition to our areas of work, we have delved into particular aspects of various environmental problems in Colombia and around the world, in order to broaden social understanding and make visible the voices of communities and organizations that face them, which propose alternative and that survive in the territories.
